Owner - Highlands Health and Wellness Center

Dr. Marie Rosy Toussaint is a physician with over 45 years of experience in Internal Medicine. She is passionate about traditionally practicing medicine, providing undivided attention, truly listening to patient concerns, and considering the whole individual. After graduating from Medical School in Haiti and completing her Internal Medicine residency, she completed specialized study in Hematology/Oncology at Miami University/Jackson Memorial Hospital on scholarship.

Two life-changing tragedies forced her to review her plans.  After her training, she had to become an American graduate to practice in the U.S.  So, she did a second Internal Medicine residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

While living in South Florida, she was exposed to diverse cultures.  Thanks to her fluency in several languages, she has worked with French-speaking Canadian patients, Creole and French-speaking Haitian patients, and Spanish-speaking patients in addition to her English-speaking patients. She understands that the Hispanic heritage population is a mosaic, where every nationality has its own culture and approach to care.

She has been in Highlands County for over 20 years and has created a personal bond with her patients, who consider her a friend.  She also makes it a point to nurture a friendly relationship with the staff where she works.  She remembers a motto hung in her office in Miami:

“People don’t know how much you know until they know how much you care”.

Her understanding of terminal diseases has helped her while working for several years in Hospice, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House.  She has provided comfort and understanding to hospice patients and their loved ones.

She has trained in functional medicine and, for several years, offered hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to menopausal women. She now focuses on guiding her patients toward proper diet and natural supplementation to assist in their treatment and improve their well-being.

Her love of cooking and her curiosity about different cuisines allow her to discuss diet in detail with her patients, where they can still enjoy their meals while making the necessary cuts. Over the last 15 years, she has worked as a wound care specialist at the Highlands Wound Care Center, dealing with non-healing wounds, diabetic, and vascular ulcers. She is proud of the great team at the Wound Center. Even though the procedures can be uncomfortable for the patients, the team often gets the same comment once a wound is healed: “What am I gonna do on Wednesdays now?”. Patients truly enjoy their care and teamwork.

Dr. Toussaint is now adding a new technology to her practice, with several applications: etc. She lives alone in Sebring and enjoys reading, cooking, ballroom dancing, and especially Latin music.  Her pets are the wildlife in her backyard, especially the deer who respond to her voice and rush in when she feeds them.
